Pilgrim Variations (2021)
Knotted cloth, clay, metal mesh, vintage plastic leaves, burlap, wood, historical stones. Interactive.  28” x 15”

Created during Paula’s artist residency at Brooklyn’s Plymouth Church, this piece references the history of the church as an important site of the Underground Railroad.  Pilgrim Variations is interactive, and viewers are encouraged to add a small stone collected from the Railroad site while viewing the work.  It is also inspired by an oral history of walking the Camino de Santiago as recounted by Plymouth’s executive administrator Molly Martinez.
